My Path to the Mountain!

The story of the Hofsaess Tennis Academy in Spain

Anyone who has ever experienced a sunrise up here – with a view of the Costa del Sol on one side and the Sierra Nevada on the other – will understand why we fell in love with this 430-meter-high hill in Andalusia. There’s no other place quite like it.

Our story – that is to say, the story of the Hofsaess Tennis Academy – began up here in 1984. That’s when my wife, Sonja, and I decided to emigrate to Elviria, near Marbella. To begin with, I worked as a freelance coach, alongside my work as the German national coach and captain of the German national tennis team.

In 1989, I bought my “mountain,” expanded the training facilities and, along with my wife and our children Oliver and Alexandra (who joined the family business in 1996 and 2000 respectively), I turned it into one of the best tennis camps in the world.

With the Hofsaess Tennis Academy, I have achieved both my highest life goal and the highest goal of my tennis career – because tennis is my life, now and always.  I have now been living out this passion for almost 50 years, progressing from being a successful player to a groundbreaking German national tennis coach in the 80s and 90s.

My most successful player, Steffi Graf, was my first student here, aged 15, and I assisted her for over 16 years. She is now regarded as the best female player of all time – and not just by me.

The path to the mountain is worth it. Nos vemos – and we look forward to seeing you soon!
